Updated recipes

This website is pretty much vegan because I do use certain items in a few recipes that have trace amounts of animal products in them. These include:

1. Worcestershire sauce (anchovies)
2.Marshmallows (gelatin)
3.Wonton wrappers (egg whites)

I thought I would show you my favorite products that I use in my recipes, in case you are wondering what they are. Some you can find at your regular grocery store and others will probably only be sold at your health foods store.

Vegan butter: Earth Balance is the best. Blue Bonnet works, too.

Vegetable broth: This is the one I use for most recipes. It has a mild flavor.

If a recipe needs a beefier flavor, such as pot roast, I use this stock

Sometimes I use No-Chicken broth

Or vegetarian bouillon

Rice Milk

Coconut Milk

Vegan Sour Cream

Vegan Cream Cheese

Vegan Parmesan Cheese

Vegan American Cheese

Vegan Mayonnaise

Best Soy Sauce: Tamari

When I have to use a vegetable puree, I sometimes save time by using baby food instead.

Seitan

Tempeh

Egg replacer

Eggs are the hardest for me to replace in a recipe. You basically need eggs to do 2 different things: make food rise (lift) and to bind foods together. Good things that give lift are baking powder, tapioca, and the above product. Binding ingredients include applesauce, bananas, and mayonnaise.

We began cooking plant based whole foods when my son's doctor recommended a diet change to improve his health. She gave me 2 books to read and a video to watch. I hadn't had homework in 10 years! The books were:

The Starch Solution by John McDougall
The China Study by T. Colin Campbell

and the movie was:

Forks over Knives

That's how we began our journey to find healthier foods that kids (and their picky parents) would like to eat. I take recipes I find and tweak them till we like to eat them. I add recipes as I cook them so it will probably take all of 2013 to fill this website out. We are not as concerned with heart disease, so I do not completely eliminate plant oils, but I do limit them substantially. I hope this will be helpful to you as well!
